Psychiatric Evaluation

Psychiatric evaluations are performed by our staff psychiatrist (medical doctor) and entail a comprehensive review of one's medical and psychiatric history.  In addition, significant people (such as the family physician, school personnel, or relatives) may be contacted for supporting information.  The evaluation frequently takes into consideration presenting problems and symptoms; information about health, illness, and treatment (both physical and psychiatric); current medication options; overview of family health and psychiatric histories; psychiatric interview of the client; and if needed, laboratory studies such as blood tests, x-rays, or special assessments (for example, psychological, educational, speech and language evaluations).  The psychiatrist then formulates a working diagnosis, develops a tailored treatment plan, and makes recommendations for psychotherapy and medication as needed.  Biological, psychological, and social backgrounds are addressed in the treatment plan along with the developmental needs, history, and strengths of the client.
